Frequently asked questions
How much does a SOC 2 audit cost?
Published ranges vary widely. Drata cites $7,500–$15,000 for a Type 1 and $12,000–$20,000 for a Type 2 at small and midsize companies, while audit firm Linford & Co states SOC 2 audits average $20,000–$100,000. Scope, criteria and readiness drive the fee.
Is Type 2 more expensive than Type 1?
Drata states a Type 2 typically costs 30–50% more than a Type 1 because it tests controls over an observation period of 3–12 months.
Does the software price include the audit?
Usually not. Most platforms bill separately from the CPA firm. Thoropass is an exception: it sells a SOC 2 audit subscription alongside its platform.
